This 4-5 person traditional Finnish sauna is as comfy as it is efficient. Nestled into the corner of our client’s space, it is tucked out of the way, but the Grade-A Western Red Cedar adds rustic charm to the space. See more custom home saunas we have built.
Planning a corner sauna like this one
A corner build uses two existing walls, which keeps the framing simple and leaves the rest of the room open. For a room this size we size the electric heater to the cubic footage, ceiling height included, and plan a dedicated electrical circuit for it. A glass door lets light in and keeps a smaller room from feeling closed in, and a bench layout with an upper and a lower level lets people choose a hotter or a milder seat.
Why Western Red Cedar
Cedar is one of the heat-ready woods we build with, along with hemlock and Nordic spruce. It stays comfortable to the touch at sauna temperatures, holds up to the swing between heat and cool-down, and gives the room its warm color and scent. Higher-grade boards have fewer knots, which gives a clean, even look like the one in this room.
