Wood-Burning Saunas in Indiana
Sauna Craft builds traditional saunas with electric or wood-burning heat from our shop at 15697 Lin Rd in Fortville. A wood-burning sauna is heated by a wood fire in a stove loaded with sauna stones, with a chimney to carry the smoke out. Jason Guilliam designs the room around the stove, sizes the heat to the cubic footage, and builds it on your site.

The wood-burning stove we recommend
Jason’s go-to wood-burning stove is the Harvia Cilindro 16. It is a 16 kW stainless-steel pillar stove made in Muurame, Finland, for sauna rooms of 212 to 459 cubic feet.
- Holds up to 264 lb (120 kg) of sauna stones
- A glass door on the firebox
- A rear ventilation duct for fast heat-up
It is the stove we built into our horse trailer sauna, shown below.
Other Harvia stove packages
We also build with two Harvia wood-stove packages: the Harvia Legend 150 WH and the Harvia Pro 20 WH. “WH” means the package includes a water heater. Each package includes:
- The Harvia wood stove (Legend 150 or Pro 20)
- A steel chimney kit
- A water heater
- Sauna stones
A wood-burning build you can see
Our horse trailer sauna is heated by the Harvia Cilindro 16 wood-burning stove. The trailer was stripped almost to bare metal and rebuilt with a new floor, new steel structural members, full insulation, a cedar interior, a cedar-framed glass door, and clear cedar benches built by Jason. The stove sits at the end of the room between the benches, and its chimney runs out through the roof. See the horse trailer sauna page for the full build.

Built for Indiana weather
Our outdoor wood-burning rooms follow the same rules as our outdoor saunas in Indiana page: a roof that sheds snow, insulation that keeps the heat in, a door that still closes after a January night, and a base that keeps the wood off standing water.
We build wood-burning saunas as outdoor standalone rooms or mobile trailer saunas only, not indoors.
From our shop: a custom trailer sauna, built from scratch
Jason built this custom trailer sauna from scratch at our Fortville shop, and it is now finished: a wood-burning stove between two cedar benches, with a full-glass end wall.

See all 12 photos of this build, from milled cedar to the finished sauna, on our mobile and trailer saunas page.
Wood or electric?
Both are traditional sauna heat: a traditional sauna heats the air with either an electric or a wood-burning heater. We talk through how you plan to use the room, then spec the heater to the space. If electric fits better, see our home saunas page. If you want wood heat you can tow, see mobile and trailer saunas in Indiana.
