Commercial Sauna Builder in Columbus, OH
Sauna Craft builds commercial saunas for Columbus gyms, clinics, hotels, apartment and club amenities, and athletic programs, from the Short North and downtown out to Dublin, Westerville, and the Polaris area. We work from our shop at 15697 Lin Rd in Fortville, Indiana. Downtown Columbus is about 2 hours 45 minutes away without traffic, which puts it near the outer edge of the three-hour range where we take commercial work only. Call or text Jason Guilliam at 317-626-5669.

Columbus facilities we build for
- Strength, CrossFit-style, and boutique gyms in the Short North, German Village, and Grandview
- Suburban health clubs and family fitness centers in Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, and New Albany, Ohio
- Physical therapy, chiropractic, and sports medicine clinics
- Campus-area and club athletic programs that need a team-sized room
- Hotel fitness and spa amenities, and apartment or condo amenity rooms
- Recovery studios built around heat and a cold plunge
Columbus is a fast-growing market with a lot of new construction, so many of these rooms start on paper. That is the best time to bring us in: the ceiling height, the electrical service, and the door location are still easy to change.
Distance planning for a 2¾-hour job
The route is straight east on I-70 past Richmond, Dayton, and Springfield. At this distance we plan the job in fewer, longer blocks. We do the measuring, confirm the drawings, and settle the heater, wood, and electrical before the build window opens, so nothing on site waits on a decision. The components are planned at our Fortville shop, and the on-site build runs in one agreed window. Most custom saunas take one to two weeks from the agreed start date, depending on the room’s size and complexity. Springfield and the east side of Dayton sit on the same corridor if you have a second site.
Working with Columbus contractors and design teams
In Ohio the general contractor of record pulls the permit with the local building department under the Ohio Building Code, and we work as the sauna trade under them. Here is what we put into the submittal package, and who does what:
- Sauna Craft: room layout, heater sizing to the room’s cubic footage, framing and insulation inside the heat room, vapor control, interior wood, benches, glass door, lighting, controls, heater setup, first heat-up, and a walk-through for your staff
- Your electrician: the dedicated heater circuit, built to the heater model and specs we provide
- Mechanical and fire protection: the ventilation plan we supply for the room, and sprinkler heads near the sauna rated for its heat
- Plumber: the steam generator supply and drain, on steam rooms only
- General contractor: permit, inspections, and the schedule
For accessibility, section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards requires at least one bench that meets section 903 (42 inches long minimum, 20 to 24 inches deep, a seat 17 to 19 inches high, back support, and a structure that takes 250 pounds of force at any point), plus a turning space inside the room and a door that stays clear of the bench’s clear floor space. We build the room to those numbers and your architect’s approved layout.
Traditional, infrared, or hybrid heat
Busy gyms usually want traditional heat, which a commercial-duty electric heater and stones provide. Quieter clinic and spa suites often suit infrared panels at lower temperatures, and a hybrid room offers both. The Colts practice facility room is a hybrid, with traditional Finnish heat plus an infrared source, sized for 8 to 10 linemen at once. See wellness center saunas for more on choosing heat.
Trailer saunas and outdoor wood-burning rooms
If you want a mobile heat room for events or outdoor programming, we build trailer saunas at our Fortville shop. You provide the trailer and bring it to us, and we build the sauna on it; we don’t travel for trailer builds. A Harvia Cilindro 16 wood-burning stove is what our horse trailer conversion uses, and trailers can also be fitted with a propane or electric heater. Wood heat is for outdoor standalone rooms and trailers only. See mobile and trailer saunas.
Our other commercial references are YMCA Kokomo and Indy City Barbell. We don’t have a Columbus project to show yet.
