Outdoor saunas on Bloomington’s hilly, wooded lots
Many Bloomington-area properties have more yard than basement, and a lot of that yard slopes. An outdoor sauna is a small building, so we build it like one: a level base that keeps the wood off standing water, a roof that sheds snow, insulation that holds the heat, and a door that still closes after a January night. We plan the power run from the house and the ventilation up front. Placement near the back door makes winter sessions easier. Check setbacks, and any HOA or lake-association rules for outbuildings, before you pick the spot. Our sauna shed project and outdoor saunas page show the approach.
For real wood heat by a lake or fire pit, we build wood-burning saunas around the Harvia Cilindro 16, as outdoor standalone rooms only, never indoors.
Indoor home saunas
Inside, we build in basements, spare rooms, bathrooms, and garage bays. A garage sauna framed on the slab works when the basement is taken; a corner sauna uses two existing walls. Every room gets a heater sized to its cubic footage, heat-ready wood (cedar, hemlock, or Nordic spruce), and a dedicated electrical circuit.
Commercial saunas in a university town
Bloomington’s commercial demand comes from gyms and yoga or recovery studios, physical therapy and chiropractic clinics, hotels and event venues, and multifamily buildings near Indiana University that compete on amenities. We work as the sauna trade under the general contractor of record, provide the heater specs, electrical requirements, clearances, and ventilation plan, and lay out the accessible bench and turning space under section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards. Indiana Class 1 projects need a state design release before construction. References: Colts practice facility, YMCA Kokomo, and Indy City Barbell.
Timeline from Fortville
We make one trip to measure and design, then return for the build. Most custom saunas take one to two weeks from the agreed start date, depending on size and complexity, and every job ends with a walk-through of the heater and controls. Outdoor rooms depend on the site work and the weather, so we plan those dates together.
