Custom Trailer Saunas Built in Indiana
A trailer sauna is a heat room you can tow. Sauna Craft builds them like any other sauna room: framed, insulated, lined in cedar, and properly heated. It is not a cedar box dropped onto a trailer bed. Our shop is at 15697 Lin Rd in Fortville.
Our horse trailer sauna
Our best example is a horse trailer rebuilt from the frame up in Indiana. The shell was stripped almost to bare metal. New floor. New steel structural members. Fully insulated. Glass windows. All the trim came off and was restored, and the exterior metal trim is new. New tires. New lights. Inside, it has a cedar interior, a cedar-framed glass door, a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood-burning stove, and clear cedar benches custom built by Jason Guilliam.

What goes into a trailer build
- Strip the trailer down, almost to bare metal, and fix the structure (a new floor and new steel members on our horse trailer)
- Insulate the shell so it holds heat
- Line the room in cedar and build the benches
- Fit glass windows and a cedar-framed glass door
- Heat the room (a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood-burning stove on our horse trailer, with the chimney run through the roof)
- Finish the road details: tires, lights, and exterior trim
Trailer builds happen at our shop. You bring your own trailer to Sauna Craft in Fortville, and we build the sauna there. We don’t travel for trailer builds.
Our horse trailer was completely rebuilt: new floor, stripped almost to bare metal, then primed and painted. It’s titled, and the finished sauna weighs about 3,500 lb, so plan on a tow vehicle rated to pull that weight.
Wood heat on the road
Our horse trailer runs on a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood-burning stove, which holds up to 264 lb (120 kg) of stones and has a rear ventilation duct for fast heat-up. For new wood-burning builds we also use Harvia wood-stove packages, the Legend 150 WH and the Pro 20 WH, which come with a steel chimney kit, a water heater, and sauna stones. We build wood-burning saunas only as outdoor standalone rooms or trailer saunas, not indoors. There is more on our wood-burning saunas in Indiana page.
Most of our trailer saunas are wood-fired, but we can also fit a trailer with a propane or electric heater.
From our shop: a custom trailer sauna, built from scratch
Jason built this custom trailer sauna from scratch at our Fortville shop, and it is now finished: a wood-burning stove between two cedar benches, with a full-glass end wall. The build photos follow the finished ones: we milled the tongue-and-groove cedar staves, mounted curved cradles on the trailer frame, glued, clamped and sanded the cedar end walls, then put the staves up on the trailer.
Do you build barrel saunas on trailers?
No. We built one barrel sauna on a trailer as a one-time build to show what we can do. We no longer build barrel saunas and have never sold one. We leave barrel saunas to builders who specialize in them.
