Commercial Saunas in Indiana and the Midwest

Commercial saunas

A commercial sauna is a high-quality, professionally designed heat therapy space built for public or shared use in businesses such as gyms, spas, hotels, wellness centers, and luxury resorts.

Commercial sauna builds across the Midwest and Upper South

Sauna Craft is based in Fortville, Indiana (15697 Lin Rd). For commercial projects we travel roughly 400 miles north, 600 miles south, and about 500 miles east and west. Past commercial work includes the Indianapolis Colts practice facility, the YMCA in Kokomo, Indy City Barbell, and other commercial gyms.

Commercial rooms are specified for daily member or guest traffic: heater duty cycle, heat-ready woods, ventilation, benches, glass, and controls. We also offer Wi-Fi sauna controls for remote monitoring and scheduling, so staff can preheat the room before opening. Residential custom work remains focused on Central Indiana; commercial builds use the wider travel radius below.

Commercial saunas in Indiana

Indiana is our home market. Commercial saunas for gyms, clinics, clubs, and hospitality spaces are designed and built from 15697 Lin Rd in Fortville, Indiana, with the short travel times that keep site visits and punch lists efficient. Indiana work includes YMCA and community wellness rooms, professional sports and practice-facility heat rooms, and recovery clinics adding contrast therapy. Home sauna owners can start with custom saunas in Indiana or home saunas.

Where we build commercial saunas: drive times from Fortville

We measured drive times from the Fortville shop with OpenStreetMap routing (no traffic). That gives two tiers:

  • Within about 2 hours: home and commercial saunas. Greater Indianapolis and Hamilton County, Anderson (about 30 minutes), Muncie (about 50 minutes), Kokomo (about 1 hour 15 minutes), Lafayette and Bloomington (about 1 hour 25 minutes), Columbus (Indiana) and Richmond (about 1 hour 15 minutes), Terre Haute and Fort Wayne (about 1 hour 50 minutes), and Dayton, Ohio (about 1 hour 55 minutes). See all service areas.
  • About 2 to 3 hours: commercial saunas only. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky (about 2 hours 5 minutes to downtown), Louisville and Southern Indiana (about 2 hours 15 minutes), Champaign-Urbana (about 2 hours 25 minutes), South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, and Warsaw (about 2 hours 15 minutes to Warsaw and 2 hours 40 minutes to South Bend), Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (Merrillville about 2 hours 35 minutes, Hammond just under 3 hours), and Columbus, Ohio (about 2 hours 45 minutes). We don’t take residential projects in these markets.

Beyond three hours we take commercial projects within the wider travel radius above, such as Evansville (about 3 hours 15 minutes), Toledo (about 3 hours 20 minutes), Nashville, St. Louis, Detroit, and Atlanta. Projects with drawings and a general contractor in place fit best at that distance. Times are without traffic, so plan on more at rush hour.

How a commercial build runs from a few hours away

Distance changes the planning, not the standard. We start with photos, dimensions, and the drawings if you have them. Jason scopes the room and writes up the heater, wood, benches, glass, lighting, and controls. The components and details are planned at our Fortville shop so the on-site work happens in one agreed window instead of a string of short trips. Most custom saunas take one to two weeks from the agreed start date, depending on the room’s size and complexity, and every commercial build ends with a walk-through of the heater and controls for your staff. The full steps are on our process page.

Working with your general contractor and architect

On most commercial build-outs we work as the sauna trade under the general contractor of record, who pulls the permit and runs inspections. For the submittal package we provide the finished room dimensions and ceiling height, the heater model and its electrical requirements, heater clearances, the ventilation plan for the room, and where the heater, controls, and lighting go. Your electrician runs the dedicated circuit to our spec; a plumber handles the steam generator on steam rooms. If the building has sprinklers, the fire protection contractor needs the sauna’s location and heater details so they can choose heads rated for the heat. More on this on our sauna subcontractor for contractors page.

Accessibility under the 2010 ADA Standards

Section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards covers saunas and steam rooms in public accommodations and commercial facilities. In short: where seating is provided, at least one bench has to meet section 903 (a seat 42 inches long minimum, 20 to 24 inches deep, 17 to 19 inches high, with back support or fixed to a wall), the door can’t swing into that bench’s clear floor space, and the room needs a turning space under section 304 (a 60-inch circle or a T-shaped space). A readily removable bench may sit in the turning space. Where several saunas are clustered in one location, only 5 percent of each type, but never fewer than one, have to comply. We lay out the room and benches around these requirements and the plans your architect has approved; the architect and the local code official make the final call, along with any state rules such as the Illinois Accessibility Code.

FAQ

Do you create Google posts for every city?

No. Website city and state pages support commercial SEO; we do not spam Google Business Profile with multi-city posts.

What commercial proof can we review?

Indianapolis Colts practice facility, YMCA Kokomo, Indy City Barbell, and other commercial gym builds—documented in our project gallery.

Is every state page a separate crew?

No. One Fortville-based commercial team travels the radius above. Local pages explain market fit; they are not doorway stubs with duplicate copy.

Do you work with general contractors?

Yes. When a build-out runs through a general contractor, we work as the sauna specialty trade with a clear scope, heater specs, and clearances. See sauna subcontracting for contractors and builders.
