Planning a job an hour and a quarter out
Richmond is an easy day trip, but we still plan to save trips. It starts with a call or text and a few photos of the space, which often lets Jason price the room before anyone drives east. One site visit then confirms measurements, the heater choice, and the electrical, and the build gets its own scheduled window. Most rooms take one to two weeks from the agreed start date, depending on size and complexity, and we finish with a walk-through of the heater and controls.
Older homes and Wayne County acreage
Richmond has a deep stock of older houses, including several historic districts, and the county around it is full of rural properties with barns and outbuildings. In an older home we check basement ceiling height, moisture, and electrical capacity before drawing anything; low joists or a damp stone foundation can rule a basement out. On acreage, a garage bay or a new sauna shed is often the simpler route.
Our garage sauna shows the garage option: a room framed and insulated on the bare slab, tight-knot cedar walls, clear cedar benches, a tinted glass door, a Harvia heater with stones and a cedar guard, and LED strips under the benches. The backyard sauna shed shows the outdoor one: traditional Finnish heat for 2 to 4 people, placed near the back door so a January session is a short walk.
Wood heat and trailer saunas in the country
For real wood heat, we build wood-burning saunas around the Harvia Cilindro 16, a stainless pillar stove made in Finland that holds up to 264 lb of stones. Wood-fired rooms are outdoor standalone buildings or trailers only, never inside a house. Our horse trailer sauna was rebuilt from the frame up with that stove, a cedar interior, and clear cedar benches. If you have a trailer, bring it to our Fortville shop and we build the sauna on it; propane or electric heat is possible too. Check the frame, the floor, and your tow rating first: the finished horse trailer sauna weighs about 3,500 lb. More on trailer saunas.
Commercial saunas in Richmond
Richmond’s potential commercial sites range from local colleges, hospitals, and clinics to hotels along I-70 and the gyms and physical therapy, chiropractic, and recovery practices that serve the area. For a commercial room we work under the general contractor of record and give the design team the room dimensions and ceiling height, heater model and electrical load, clearances, and ventilation plan. Public rooms follow section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards for the accessible bench, turning space, and door swing, and Indiana Class 1 buildings need a state design release. If staff should preheat the room before opening, we can add Wi-Fi sauna controls for remote monitoring and scheduling.

Richmond sauna FAQ
Do you build home saunas in Richmond?
Yes. Richmond is about an hour and 15 minutes from our Fortville shop, inside the area where we build both home and commercial saunas.
Can you build a sauna in an outbuilding or garage?
Yes. We frame and insulate a dedicated room, line it in cedar, and add the heater, glass door, and lighting. A new outdoor sauna shed is built like a small building, with a base, roof, insulation, and a power run.
Do you build wood-burning saunas?
Yes, as outdoor standalone rooms or trailer saunas only, never indoors. Our wood builds use the Harvia Cilindro 16 stove.
How many trips does a Richmond project take?
Usually one site visit to measure and confirm the design, then the build itself. Photos and rough measurements up front often let Jason estimate before the visit.

Call or text Jason at 317-626-5669 or email saunacraftco@gmail.com. Mention whether the room would go in the house, the garage, or the yard, and attach photos if you can. You can also write through the contact form or run the sauna cost estimate tool first.
Heading back toward the shop, we also build in Muncie, connected to Richmond by the Cardinal Greenway, and in Anderson and Fortville. Columbus, Indiana has its own page. For commercial work up to roughly three hours away, see the regional commercial sauna builder page.
