Two kinds of Lafayette projects

Lafayette work tends to split in two. On one side are homeowners in established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions who want a real sauna in a basement, spare room, garage, or yard. On the other are the businesses around a Big Ten university town: gyms and training studios, physical therapy and sports medicine clinics, multifamily and student housing with amenity rooms, and hotels. We build for both.

Home saunas

We start with the space. A basement is often the easiest place indoors: concrete floor, room for a dedicated circuit, and out of the way. Our 6 x 4.5 ft basement sauna shows how a compact room can still seat 5 or 6. A corner of a room keeps framing simple, as in the 4–5 person cedar sauna. Outdoor rooms are small buildings with a base, roof, insulation, and a power run from the house, like our sauna shed. We size the heater to the cubic footage and build in cedar, hemlock, or Nordic spruce.

Commercial saunas for Lafayette facilities

A gym or clinic sauna has to handle daily use and be easy to keep clean. We size the room and heater for the number of people using it at once, choose commercial-duty components, and plan benches that are comfortable and easy to clean. In student and multifamily housing, the owner or general contractor brings us in as the sauna trade. We supply the heater specs, electrical requirements, clearances, and ventilation plan for the permit, and we lay out the accessible bench and turning space under section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards.

Proof you can look at: the hybrid team sauna at the Colts practice facility, sized for 8 to 10 linemen at once; the YMCA Kokomo room; and Indy City Barbell, a downtown Indianapolis gym sauna built around gym hours. More on wellness center and gym saunas.

Scheduling from Fortville

At about 85 minutes each way, Lafayette is a day-trip site visit. We measure and settle the design on that visit, then come back for the build. Most custom saunas take one to two weeks from the agreed start date, depending on the room’s size and complexity, and the job ends with a walk-through of the heater and controls.

Wood heat and trailers

Rural Tippecanoe County properties sometimes want a wood-burning sauna. We build those as outdoor standalone rooms only. We also build trailer saunas at our Fortville shop on a trailer you bring us, with a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood stove or a propane or electric heater.
