Glass door into the cedar sauna Sauna Craft built for Indy City Barbell in downtown Indianapolis

A college town with two kinds of demand

Muncie mixes long-time homeowners with a large university population, and both create interest in a real sauna. Homeowners in established neighborhoods, in Yorktown, and out in the county want a heat room rather than a plug-in cabinet. On the business side, a university city supports gyms and training studios, sports medicine and physical therapy clinics, student and multifamily housing that competes on amenities, and hotels that fill up for campus events. We build for both groups.

Home saunas in Delaware County

For most Muncie houses, the basement is the first place we look: out of the way, usually a concrete floor, and often room for the heater’s dedicated circuit. Our 6 x 4.5 ft basement sauna seats 5 or 6 yet heats quickly for one person, and its digital controls make temperature and session time easy to set. Where only a corner is free, a two-wall build like our 4–5 person cedar sauna keeps framing simple. Already have a sauna that is structurally fine but tired? A heater replacement, like our swap from a compact wall unit to a floor-standing tower heater in an existing custom room, may be all it needs.

We choose cedar, hemlock, or Nordic spruce, size the heater to the cubic footage, and can add Wi-Fi sauna controls so you can start the room from your phone before you get home.

Commercial saunas for gyms, clinics, and student housing

A gym sauna in a college town gets heavy daily use, often by several members at once straight from training. That calls for a commercial-duty heater that holds temperature as people come and go, sturdy benches, and surfaces that stand up to cleaning. Our example is Indy City Barbell in downtown Indianapolis: a commercial-duty Harvia heater, a cedar interior, under-bench LED lighting, and a build scheduled around gym hours so members could keep training. For athletic use, the hybrid room at the Colts practice facility pairs traditional Finnish heat with an infrared source and was sized for 8 to 10 linemen. YMCA Kokomo shows a 10 by 10 ft member room for 10 to 12 people.

In apartment and student-housing projects, the owner or general contractor brings us in as the sauna trade. We supply heater specifications, electrical requirements, clearances, and the ventilation plan for permitting, and lay out the accessible bench and turning space under section 612 of the 2010 ADA Standards. Indiana Class 1 buildings need a state design release before construction. More on wellness center saunas for gyms and studios.

Rural lots, wood heat, and trailers

Outside the city, around Prairie Creek Reservoir and the farm ground across the county, there is often room for an outdoor sauna. If you want a wood fire, we build wood-burning saunas only outdoors, as standalone rooms or on trailers. Our trailer saunas are built at the Fortville shop on a trailer you supply, usually around a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood stove, though propane and electric heaters are options too.

Muncie sauna FAQ

Do you build saunas near the university?

Yes. We build home saunas around campus and across Muncie, and commercial saunas for gyms, clinics, and housing, working with the owner or general contractor.

How long is the drive from your shop to Muncie?

About 50 minutes from our Fortville shop without traffic, so site visits are easy to schedule.

Can you replace the heater in an existing sauna?

Yes. If the room is sound, a heater replacement or targeted refresh is often enough. We size the new heater to the room’s cubic footage.

Can you build a sauna on my trailer?

Yes. You bring the trailer to our Fortville shop and we build the sauna on it, typically with a Harvia Cilindro 16 wood stove. Propane or electric heat is also possible.
